How to activate EAN128 barcode scanning in Pick-IT non-ASP (CAB)

Introduction

Before you are able to use EAN128 bar codes, some settings have to be activated. This must be done both on the terminal and in the Pick-IT hand terminal settings. This document describes the steps to take to activate EAN128 bar code decoding in Pick-IT non-ASP version. For Pick-IT ASP please refer to How to activate EAN128 barcode scanning in Pick-IT ASP.

Description

The configuration of EAN128 for Pick-IT non-ASP consists of the following steps:

  • configuring the hand terminal
  • configuring Pick-IT on the hand terminal (editing the file CONFIG.DAT)
  • configuring Pick-IT hand terminal settings

Configuring Terminals

First the hand terminal has to add prefix, suffix and a separator sign to the scanned bar codes. This configuration differs per model:

Configuring Pick-IT on the hand terminal

Open the file CONFIG.DAT on the hand terminal in the folder \Program Files\Pickit, see document How do I access Pick-IT files on the terminal.

Change the following settings in this file:

ScannerUsePrefixSuffix TRUE
ScannerPrefix (       or another prefix sign, but the same as used in the terminal configuration
ScannerSuffix )       or another suffix sign, but the same as used in the terminal configuration
ScannerGroupSeparator $      this setting was introduced in later versions of Pick-IT CAB, if this setting is missing
then the default separator sign is already '$' and cannot be configured
BarcodeType EAN128

After changing, do not forget to copy the file CONFIG.DAT to the folder \Application (Symbol/Motorola devices) or \System (LXE devices) to save this configuration for a next cold boot sequence.

Pick-IT scanner settings per Pick-IT functionality

The setting "Use EAN128" has to be enabled for every Pick-IT functionality where you want to use EAN128 scanning, in menu System/Pick-IT/Scanners, for example System/Pick-IT/Scanners/Sales Order fulfillment settings.

Activating changed settings

When using RF (wireless communication), these settings are read by Pick-IT on the hand terminals when restarting Pick-IT. When using batch communication (cradle), you will have to export the settings to each hand terminal in System/Pick-IT/Scanners/Send scanner settings.
